Description

Radiolarian is Garten's second print series. It is based upon digital reconstructions of etchings and drawings by the 19th Century German naturalist Ernst Haeckel (1834-1919). Garten appropriated Haeckel's two-dimensional images of the illustrations of radiolarian (protozoan) by digitally redrawing them as three-dimensional models. He then extracted sections for printed compositions that exhibit a precise balance of applied art and applied science.
