The result of a collaboration between Cliff Garten Studio and Metropeligo Architects, this competition-winning entry was selected after extensive input from public agencies and local citizen groups. The 50-foot, two-lane traffic, and pedestrian bridge replaces a WPA-era concrete arch bridge and connects two lakes. The bridge, constructed of Corten steel, has a unique oval deck allowing cantilevered sides and greater interaction with the landscape. The railings and arches at overlooks are water jet cut with a pattern of maple leaves, for the cities of Mapelwood and Little Canada. The transparent structure is illuminated at night, acting as a beacon for lakesideide community. Cliff Garten Studio and Metropeligo designed aspects of the bridge, which was engineered by TKDA Engineers.
