Main Street Seating

2002 Olympics

Salt Lake City, Utah

2002

Description

The initial, perfectly platted city grid of Salt Lake has a unique place in American city planning. This grid provides the graphic form and inspiration for four sculptural seating areas on Main Street, while looser grids of natural forms create a counterpart to this geometry. Ensembles of sculptural seating in granite, sandstone, and bronze in four areas along Main Street take advantage of the historical interdependence of public and private spaces on Main Street, providing interesting places for everyday activities and incentives for the development of business and life on the street.
